The Animal Struggle

I was witness to the proverbial game of cat and mouse. The cat, who is closer to kitten, played with the small mouse for over an hour before it gave up the ghost to the great pantry in the sky. The animal kingdom is brutal at times, but interestingly, there is no malice perceivable in the eyes of a predator performing according to its instincts and needs. “I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.”

The Poor

One of the cultural travesties to which society is inured is the subjugating of the poor to their caste. The fragility of the economy is made bare in the current times. This card-castle is based on hyper-dependent services and luxury goods upon which the livelihood of the producing people depends.

This 35mm film photo below was taken 20 years ago and has always touched my heart.

To the Moles and Bats

North of Winnemucca Nevada is this abandoned building along the highway. Graffiti artists had gone out of their way to exercise their art. This “blow snake” or Great Basin Gopher Snake made a fitting foreground to the art. The interior was populated by bats that were conducting their ultra-sonic screeching in the walls. Satyrs will dance in their desolate houses. There were also Mormon Crickets.
